Lamaze Childbirth Education Classes
LAMAZE is the "GOLD STANDARD" worldwide in childbirth education.
Clinical studies have consistently proven that Lamaze-prepared women:
-
Had better birth outcomes
-
Developed fewer complications
-
Approached labor with greater confidence
-
Reported that they felt a greater sense of calm and more capable of managing their labor
-
Expressed greater satisfaction with their birth experience; as did their birth partners
Your class will be taught by a Lamaze-Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE). An LCCE has reached the very pinnacle of teaching professionalism; the credential is recognized worldwide for excellence. Lamaze is the ONLY nationally or internationally accredited childbirth education program.
By enrolling in a Lamaze Childbirth Class to prepare yourself and your partner for labor and the birth of your baby, you'll:

-
Understand the physical changes and range of motions you'll feel as labor progresses through each of its distinctive phases and stages
-
Develop skill at using proven Lamaze breathing and relaxation techniques and other comfort measures (massage, effleurage, changes in position) that will help you to better manage discomfort
-
Gain knowledge of possible interventions that may be suggested by your physician (such as induced labor, use of a vacuum extractor or fetal heart monitor, episiotomy, and birth by Cesarean delivery)
-
Enjoy the comfort of having a knowledgeable birth partner who's better prepared to provide you with emotional and physical support during labor
-
Become familiar with the hospital's policies, practices, and procedures

Infant/Child CPR Class
Anyone who's ever been around a baby knows that whatever the infant picks up goes straight into its mouth...so there always exists a very real, constant risk of choking which can become life-threatening in seconds. There are also other situations that can cause a baby's breathing to stop and its heart to cease beating. Every parent (and caregiver) should know how to immediately use proven CPR techniques to save the life of their child.
Taught by an Infant/Child/Adult CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) Instructor certified by the American Heart Association. This is a "skills" course for family, friends, and caregivers; it is not a certification course.
What you'll learn:
-
How to clear an obstruction lodged in your baby's/child's airway
-
How to apply cycles of chest compressions and breaths to keep your baby/child alive until emergency medical help arrives
-
How to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) to restore a victim's heartbeat (AEDs are now available at many schools, restaurants, entertainment venues, sporting events, malls, retail stores, etc.)
-
The techniques for clearing an airway and performing Child CPR can be generalized to giving aid to a stricken adult
Classes meet at North Austin Medical Center on one Saturday afternoon from either 12 to 2 p.m., 2 to 4 p.m., or 4 to 6 p.m.
